Current Positions
- Member of the Alumni Board of Trustees of Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts since 2008, providing leadership on communications, technology and change for the college’s student and alumni relations,
- Member of the Advisory Board of the Missouri Publishers’ Association since 2006, responsible for oversight of The Columbia Missourian, the newspaper of the University of Missouri’s Journalism School, including active engagement over the recent budget debates and business models reviews.
- Member of the advisory board (since 2001) of The Health Promotions Advisory Committee, National Home Office, American Cancer Society, providing advice on internet publishing initiatives including advisory services for Cancer.org and all patient’s information delivery vehicles.
Past Positions
- Founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Online News Association (ONA) until 2006, chair of nominating and student and educator committees. The association was founded in 1999 by the editors of leading online news sites in the belief that the Internet is the most powerful communications medium to arise since the dawn of television. As the Net becomes a primary source of news for a growing segment of the world’s population, it presents complex challenges and opportunities for journalists as well as the news audience. Issues addressed by the organization’s activities include editorial integrity, independence, journalistic excellence, freedom of expression and freedom of access.
- Member of the Knight Foundation advisory board at Indiana University’s School of Journalism, from 1997 – 2001. The board advises the Journalism School on curriculum development and its ability to meet the changing marketplace needs of the marketplace. Other board members include executives and academics from the Washington Post, Microsoft, St. Petersburg Times, New York University and Consumer Reports.
- Member of the advisory board of New York University’s Center for Publishing’s program in Electronic Publishing, from 2000-2002; NYU’s Center for Publishing provides students and opportunity to receive advanced professional degrees; the advisory board provides assistance on overall strategy and curriculum development.
- Member of the Board of Directors for The Florence Fund and Tom Paine.com, a non-profit grant making and publishing organization that helps invigorate public debate by assisting interest groups in moving their message to larger audiences from 1999-2002. Areas of focus include money in politics, the environment and media criticism.
- Member of the New Media Center advisory board at the American Press Institute, Reston, Virginia
from 1997-2000.
- From 1997-2000, at the request of Jim Naughton, President of the Poynter Institute, served as an advisor, assisting in envisioning the Institute’s content, programming, policy and design for Poynter.org, the website for
the Poynter Institute, St. Petersburg, Florida.
- Member of the New York New Media Association’s (NYNMA) Programs Committee from 1999-2001; served as event producer for NYNMA’s Town Hall Meeting featuring panelists from Fortune, AOLTV, BlackPlanet, Release 1.0 and over 400 audience members from the New York New Media community, New York, July 12, 2001.
- Member of the local advisory board for Red Leaf Group, a Venture Capital firm, from 1999 – 2001. Red Leaf Group funds companies creating technologies that enable e-commerce and content and infrastructure management.
- Member of the advisory board for Sportsforwomen.com from 1998-2001. Sportsforwomen.com is a news and information site about women’s sports and provides both editorial and commerce opportunities for its users.
- Served as an advisor assisting in the development of a technological infrastructure and online programming for the International Aids Vaccine Initiative, from 1998-2000.

- Served as judge for Editor and Publisher’s annual Eppy Awards for best work in US based online and interactive media.
- Served as judge for monthly and annual SNDies Website and Interactive Multimedia program sponsored by the Estlow Center at University of Denver and the Society for News Design.
- Served as mentor and advisor for Franklin D. Roosevelt High School’s winning team in the 2001 New York City / MOUSE Digital Newspaper Contest. The program seeks to teach New York City public high school students writing, journalism, programming and web-design skills in a fun, educational and collegial after-school setting. Each of the students on the winning team received laptop computers.

- Named Top 75 Influential American Woman by The Irish Voice, June 2009.
- Finalist for the World Technology Network’s Award in Media and Journalism. The award and nomination was given in conjunction with the Economist magazine and presented in London in November 1999.
- Named number 33 in a listing of "50 names to know" in New Media by the Online Journalism Review in February 1998.
- Named number 61 in the first annual Silicon Alley Reporter’s Top 100 listing of influential New York New Media leaders, December 1997.
- Named as one of the top ten women in New York New Media by @NY in 1997.
- Served as producer and editorial team member for sites at Advance, The New York Times and consulting engagements that have won ten newspaper industry awards including several "Eppy" and "Edgie Awards" for categories ranging from "Best Community Site" to "Best Online Newspaper."
- Profiled as an innovator and leading Internet editor in an early often-sited article on the Internet called "Elizabeth Osder: Visions of an Accomplished Webmaster," that appeared in Computer Mediated Communications Journal in 1995.
